1985 35 HP Mercury

I had the Fuel pump diaphragm kit replaced 2 years ago and the engine ran fine. It now runs about 100 yards and then dies. As long as I continue to squeeze the primer bulb, it runs fine. The check valve assembly was not replaced at the time the diaphragm kit was. Would it need a new diaphragm kit already or is something else going on?
