I have a 2002 60 hp elpt that runs but lacks power as if it is down a cylinder or two. I bought the engine with the boat, the cover reads 60hp 4 Stroke EFI, but based on my observations of having carbs and mercury confirming based on serial number it looks like I got taken……oh well I just need this thing to run.
checked the coil with an ohm meter and zero resistance across positive and negative wires with no autocorrection.cancel.
The secondary coil test showed 4.4 and 4.5
The spark plug cap also showed for 4.5 on both.
I used a timing light to check spark I had spark visible with the timing light on cylinder 1 and 2 (top to bottom)
cylinders 3 and 4 showed no spark however when removing the plug boots from these spark plugs I noticed a slight change. When the boot was removed from the plug the spark was then visible on the timing light but was not when reattached to the plug.
however when I pulled boots 1 and 2 the engine almost killed.
