  • 2000 V175 EFI dropping cylinders 5&6

My engine drops cyls 5&6, seems to be on fuel injector side. Has been happening since Sept of 09, stopped doing during colder months. Started happening again late March. (air temps of below 50F considered colder temps)
Both cylinders getting spark when this happens, will jump a 1" air gap easily. Engine RPM makes no difference as to when this occurs, can happen at idle to full throttle. If it occurs at idle boat will not go over about 1600 RPM, if at plane speed or better boat will stay on top but looses alot of power. Sometimes it will pick cylinders back up and go, other times have to idle back to ramp or destination. Has happened as soon as boat is started in morning, or after crossing lake twice. Fuel system has been checked from tank to injectors, including removal and cleaning of injectors and vapor tank. Boat spent a month at a shop in October and they could find nothing wrong. Trigger assy, #2 cdm have been changed, put new ignition controller on and engine would not start at all, fuel pump shut off as soon as key turned to start, would not come back on untill key turned off then back on. Reinstalled old controller and engine starts/runs same as before. Engine is on a 2000 Tr 19 Triton and will turn a 25 pitch Fury at 5900 rpm when running on all 6. Don't know what to replace to cure problem.
    Thanks for any help, Clay.

It sounds like a bad ECU but unless the engine could be tested at the time it drops the cylinders it would be difficult to find problem.

I was afraid of that, but was hoping that ignition controller might be it due to it also sendning signal to ecu for injectors from the trigger assy. I have to find it soon because am heading to triton owners tournament on May 30th. Would hate to fish on trolling motor only.

Took a little boat ride this afternoon, idle speed in gear about 600 to 650 rpm. In neutral it's about 800 to 850. Ran good untill heading back, dropped cylinders for about 4 mins then was able to take off and the 1/4 mile back to ramp....strange problem.

I would check all the connectors from trigger assy to cdm's to module.
