  • 5hp Two Stroke Not Weeing !

I have a Merc 5HP 2 Stroke, does any one know the trick to take the bottom leg off so i can get to the impeller? Tried to do it but it was stuck with the linkages to the Gear selector and I could not see where to disconnect it .

The motor is not weeing and I am sure that I have some mud or something in the Impeller housing. Is it a servicable item?
or am I waisting my time and should I take it to a Pro?
    Looking forward to any advice
    Kind regards
    Justin

Well I managed to take the bottom leg off, and get to the impeller, it is straight forward once you have a bit of guidance! Thank you. One tip though is to make sure that the motor is in reverse gear when you undo the bolt that connects the Gear linkages together. I found the impeller totally disintegrated. Only one Arm / Blade was left intact. I found two others in the bottom of the pump but have no idea where the others are the little pin was just rolling around the bottom housing at well. This leads me to this question,

Should I totally strip the motor to check if the little rubber pieces have not got up into the motor and are now blocking water cooling channels around the engine? Or are the channels big enough for these pieces to pass through? I should imagine that they are as you could suck up sticks and stones through the grill at the bottom which could also get stuck in the cooling system.

I am now after the part number for the impeller, the motor has the following details
        Make: Mercury
        Model: 5MLH
        Year: 1997

It also has the following information on it:
        Marine Power
        Made in Belgium

I use this engine for trawling and as backup to the main motor (Yamaha 130) so it has to be reliable.
Thanking you for all your advice
        Kind Regards

If can't find all broken pieces in water pump or in inlet screen on bottom side of cavitation plate then it may have pieces in water tube going to engine or in engine water passages.
The impeller is number 15 in this diagram and water pump kit is at top of list Mercury Outboard Parts 1997 1005201TM GEAR HOUSING COMPONENTS Diagram
