  • Trim & Tilt Valve Pressure

I have a 2005 Mercury 50 hp with a single ram trim & tilt which is limited in the height the tilt ram will extend while underway at high rpm's. (It drops down sightly by the force of propeller thrust) I found a diagram that shows a tilt relief valve on the side of the unit that's torqued to 120lbs.

Can I torque it higher and increase the pressure is takes to activate the valve?

No that valve is so you can tilt motor by hand if power trim fails.

No....I'm not talking about the "manual release valve".....I'm asking about tightening the "tilt pressure relief valve" sitting just next to it on the side of the unit.

This is the one described in my manual that is activated when the tilt ram goes up high enough to clear or uncover a pressure relief passage to allow oil to flow from the up cavity to lower the rams psi.

My question is....if it is possible to change the sensitivity of the actuator pin inside the "tilt relief valve" by tightening it beyond the manufacturers specified torque level of 120lbs to increase the pressure it takes to activate it?
