Parts to convert 25hp Tiller Merc

I have a 2002/03 (?) 25hp Mercury 2 cycle outboard motor on my boat. (elec start) I just spend a fair amount of cash having carb rebuilt and a new power pack installed and it is finally running really well.

*Not sure about age.. One sticker says "APR 2002", but the by the serial # sticker it says "2003, 25ELH".. In any case, the motor has very low miles and looks very clean for its age. I thing it was run minimally and stored indoors etc.

In any case, the tiller steer is really not working well for me. Shoulder and elbow pain starts to flair up after a couple hrs on the river.

I have found a good deal on a small console that should fit my boat and want to find out exactly what parts I need to track down to convert it to a remote steer & throttle. (boat is already elec start).

I know some will probably tell me to just sell this motor and buy another one, but I am not in a rush and a pretty good at scrounging parts as long as I know what to look for. I also have access to a couple friends who are good a working on boats.

So.. I just need to know what parts and from what years will work for my motor. Serial #0T607558

881170A3 Side mount control box
2) Gen I throttle and shift cables, would need to know what length you need.

Thanks.. that confirms most of what I found by searching old posts.

I was confused re which SM/Control box I needed. An earlier post re a 2004 motor showed a 881170A5. so I was not sure if that would work or if they were totally different.

Also, do I need to change the motor wiring harness? I see a 95723A4 for the '04, but nothing comparable for my '02...

And what about the remote start/key switch? 15000A7 ?? Do I need this?

I see 816626A15 for the newer motor, but nothing comparable listed for the '02

Sounds like the configuration changed quite a bit between these two generations.

I do want to add either a tilt/trim, or a jack plate due to a lot of shallow areas on my river. So I am hoping to find a throttle/control box that has the switch for up/down etc..

It would be great if I could find the factory tilt to add it all on the way it was meant to be.. but the "Trim kit" 850700A6 seems to be obsolete and unavailable.

Is there another model that will fit and can be easily wired in?

2004 and newer uses 881170A5, 2002 uses 881170A3.
The engine harness may be in remote conversion kit, contents of kit is not listed.
If use a side mount control box then key switch and harness is in control box.
