Please excuse my ignorance but i am only new to the world of boating.
I recently purchased a brand new old stock '74 model 65hp redband motor still in its original box. Are redband motors interchangeable with the older pre '70's mercury outboard so i could simply exchange the '74 powerhead with the older pre'70 mercury powerhead. The reason is im restoring an older 63 Savage Javelin and wish to keep the motor relevant to the age of the boat and i love the look of the older mercurys
