1970 80hp LU onto a 1977 85hp ?

Hi all..i have a 1977 mercury 850 85hp...lower unit is bad..i found a 1970 80hp lower unit...im wondering if anyone can tell me if this will work..both outboards
1977 ser# 4724833
1970 ser# 2881820
Any help is greatly appreciated
