  • 250 pro xs - connecting rod

    Hi All,

I’m from Zambia and would like a bit of advice before i order parts please,

    i have a mercury 250 PRO XS SERIAL #1B976679 MODEL #1251P73BD.

the motor has just gone out of warranty and has less than 60 hours on it.

So i went fishing last year and it was a remote area so launching and lifting was a problem. All went well apart from when we lifted the boat out of the water after a successful trip the engine dipped into the water and i thing water went back up the exhaust and filled up two of the chambers.

the boat was taken out of the water and left for month and only a week ago we decided to start it up and get it ready for this year’s trip.

to my disappointment the engine seemed to have a hard start but eventually manage to start but just seem to be idling rough.

after the boat was taken out of the water i didn’t need to start it again till now. So i expect a possible hydraulic lock.

anyway long and short upon further investigation somewhere between trying to crank it and it start a connecting snapped, visible buy a small hole in the crank case cause by the connecting rod coming out of position.

So i need to order the spares but want to order them before i do the strip down.

I have found the parts list but need to know from someone whose done it before or has a job car for changing the conrod.

I only plan to change one conrod and nothing else at this stage depending on what i find when i open up.

I need a list of all the parts besides the connecting rods that will be needed to strip down the crank case change the rod and assemble it back.

so i need to know basically what gasket kit to buy that will contain all seals and gaskets to remove one head, lower crank case, conrod etc.

    my initial thoughts were

1.conrod maybe 2 cause part of engine affected was lower 2 cylinders.
    2.bearings for the conrods
3.gaskets and seals but not sure which set for the job.

please can someone either send me a job card for similar or help me with a list of what i will require.

i have tried to attach a picture of the water line mark on the motor.

    thanks in advance guys

Given you perforated the case I would recommend you get a manufactured powerhead

thanks but is there any pressure on the lower side crank case? why do you recommend a complete manufactured power head rather than just a repair?
