  • No spark dirty connections HELP 1981 40HP

I recently bought a used boat. Motor needed a new flywheel which I replaced. Thought that was the only problem, long story short it was not. I'm getting no spark to either plugs. Tested the resistance of ignition stator, trigger and both are good per mercury specs. Tested both coils, primary test good BUT on the secondary test between high tension contact on coil to ground and i had a very hard time to get it to read (when it did read both were on spec, had to scrape around in there). Looked in the coil connection point and it was full of green buildup. Cleaned the best I could but there is still some rust in there. Can get a reading more easily with my multimeter but still have trouble.

Does anyone have insight on if this is the reason I am not getting spark? The high tension leads from coil to spark plugs also are pretty corroded. Do I just need to spark plug wires? Do I need brand new coils? Could this not be the problem at all? This is my first experience repairing a boat motor, so thank you for any help!
