have checked out a number of things but problem continues- seems cranking/turning over the starter motor is intermittent no matter how well charged the battery is. have cleaned starter switch and leads to the motor. What electrical component(s) should I consider replacing? when it decides to crank it starts immediately and runs and charges fine. All that has been replaced on this is the starter solenoid. Sailboat use over the years mainly for entering leaving the dock area so minimal hours over the short summer seasons. any suggestions/ideas appreciated. frustrating.

thanks -- It cranks like crazy when it decides to go - but like I said, it often acts like a weak battery with very slow cranking or just gives a loud thud when you turn the key. I'll probably go with a new starter and move on to other components from there. Biggest draw back on these is not having an easy to use backup rope pull - have to take off the top cowl and then some screws on another cover to get on the emergency rope which can be tough under some water conditions...
