  • How to, Remove a 90hp outboard

    I have 2011 Mercury 90 hp 4-stroke EFI
I have to remove the jack plate that's on the motor, and bolt the motor straight to the transom, here's my problem.
I am going to have to figure out away to unbolt the motor take the jack plate off and then move the Mercury mounting bracket in to the transom 4 inches the depth of the jack plate. Then rebolt the motor to the transom ( and the motor will probably 99% sure, need to be lowered down 1 1/2 to line the transom up with the correct height so the boat bottom lines up with the motors caveat ion plate. What method is the cheapest route to go to get the motor moved by one person, out in a field boat on the trailer. I attached a photo of the motor for reference to anyone who may want to view the job.
Just to be clear on this, I am going to buy a engine lift, a hanging chain pulley, I have a 1ton floor jack also. I want to know which method will be the easiest and cheapest and safest to complete this job myself. If I go buy the correct equipment.
If I were to buy a chain & a block & tackle and buy 3 wooden or medal poles what kind and what weight and gear rating would be best?

The lift point is the flywheel. You will notice the center of flywheel is threaded to take a adapter that has a lifting ring. A standard engine crane is the best tool for lifting the motor and moving it around.

Thanks for the reply. I have a ring for the fly wheel, I am just not sure what to use to pick the motor up with. Can you point me to a engine crane? Not sure what that is?

Here's a picture. Although a tripod or overhead beam will work

I have to do this in a field, I have no access to a beam. I wish I could find someone that sells a tripod
