  • 2011 Mercury 90 hp Four Stroke EFI

    ok,
Heres my issue, but first, here is the information about the motor so you will know better how to ID the problem.
I bought a 2011 90 hp 4 stroke EFI used but in good condition.
Just to be on the safe side I replaced the air filter, plugs, oil's, fuel filter on the high pressure side, new fuel lines, etc...( I did not replace the power packs or coils)
The motor(serial 1B853167) is installed on a Brand NEW 25 foot boat with new Everything.
    New Prop Turning Point;# (LE1/LE2-13.25 x 17) HUB kit # 501
My issue is this; When i take off the GPS shows I am only getting up to a speed of 18 knots, it wont even plain out.
motor cranks and runs with a chop in it, but it will stay cranked in neutral all day long.
Also, when I pull back on the throttle the engine dies every time. even when i am barley in gear and going. anytime i am in gear and back off the throttle the motor turns off.
one other possibly related issue i am having is that when the motor cuts off, in gear, while moving, I am hearing a clicking from the lower unit area of the motor after the engine has cut off and is floating forward in gear.

Run a full diagnostic on engine, compression test, cylinder leak down test, fuel pressure and fuel vacuum test, check for water in fuel and check to see if there is fuel in engine oil. Get a computer download to see if any fault codes are active.

I have another question that might be the problem. Do you know if a Mercury 2011 four stroke EFI 90hp should have a primer bulb inline with the fuel line or should it not be on that motor? I was reading the operation manual and it mentioned that a bulb shouldn't be installed on that motor.
I am not 100% sure I read the section correctly but figured it won't hurt to ask.
