  • Not pumping water (2002 Merc 50hp/2 stroke)

Ran my motor today and noticed that it was not pumping water. Ran it last week and it was working good. I have heard that just because I don't see water being pumped out, it does not mean that the motor is not getting water. Can anyone please tell me if that is true, how do I know that the motor won't overheat when I am out on the water. Also any pointers on how to fix the problem. Thanks!!!

Mud wasp do like to nest in he pisser. When was the last time the seawater impeller was changed? 02' is a long time ago. If it's never been done I'd get it replaced regardless

I don't know who told you this, but that pissing water stream is the way ur boat gets rid of the warm water after it's cooled the engine. Besides, the water that the vents, at the bottom of motor, suck in has to go somewhere. I say check for dirt dobber nest in the line and replace the water pump impeller
It's in the foot of the motor and easy to change.
