I recently purchased a 1998 30 HP Mercury ELPTO which did not come with the thumb screws for mounting on the transom. I would like to purchase some bolts to temporarily install the motor on my 13ft Boston Whaler instead of spending over $100 for OEM Thumbscrews. I simply want to lightly test the configuration before drilling through the metal plate cover and transom of the boat. The bolt size seems to be about 5/8 but I cannot find the proper thread type for the motor mount at my local hardware store, I've tried coarse and fine threads that do not work without damaging the current threads. Does anyone know what type of threads are used or have any info that will help. Thanks for helping my dilemma.
