  • power steering issues

Just purchased a 2000 bayliner 2858 with a mercruiser bravo 3 outdrive 454 motor There is no power steering, the fluid level is ok and not burned color, belt is tight no noise issues. When i go full to the right it seems to come to a hard stop when i turn to left it seems spongy. Im told this should be self bleeding after 4 or 5 turns lock to lock. Ive tried to do some research is there a pressure valve located inside the pump that can be replaced. Is there another way to bleed it what else can i do to trouble shot /Thanks I need help ASAP I look stupid trying to dock / Richard

Although I never tried it, How about clamping off the high pressure line with vice grips while the engine is running? You'll hear signs of the pump going into bypass if it's making pressure. Just a thought.
