My 15hp mercury 2cycle motor has been running perfectly,
including yesterday, but today it has some sort of fuel
problem, I think. It starts ok, (with the choke on), and
accelerates OK, (with the choke on), and runs fine at high
speed, (choke or not), but with the choke off it won't idle for
more than a few seconds and dies when I open the throttle.
Squeezing the primer bulb does not change the motor's
operation. I have previously adjusted the idle speed jet to 2
turns CCW from just seated. At 1.5 turns the engine would
stall on acceleration like it does now. Today I tried it at 2.25
turns and no improvement.
The fuel is new and I've dumped out the filter bowl in case
some water was in it, and run the engine for several minutes
and various speeds, but nothing changes the symptoms.
So I guess I have to take the carb off and clean it, assuming
the idle circuit is clogged.
The problem is that this is a re-occuring issue, it has
happened before.
Any ideas?
