I just traded for this mariner 90, best I can tell it is a 79 or 80 model, serial# is 5504489. I checked compression and have 125 on all cylinders, engine starts fairly easily on muffs, however it is idle at about 1800. yesterday was first attempt in water, had to choke several times till it warmed up then it idled smooth yet still fast, when trying to accelerate it just bogs and dies, only way I could get any acceleration at all was to continually push choke. I'm thinking it needs carbs and fuel pump rebuilt, but I'm not very familiar with this engine. Are there any other things that I should check first?
