2000, 225 Optimax

Hi Guys,

I stripped one of the bore holes for my spark plug in the head and believe I will be running into this on the remaining bores of the rest of my pair of 2000, 225 Optimax engines. There's a little corrosion around some of the spark plugs. If I send the heads off to the reputable machine shop and have them repaired with Helicoils, will I have any issues?

I found some used heads from a 2002 Optimax, which he had replaced under warranty in 2005, so I am guessing they are 2005 heads. The part numbers are, Head #1 part # 900-8584B-C2 and Head #2 part # 900 858483-C2. Will these heads be interchangeable with my engine? I would only go this route if there are issues with repairing my current heads.

Look to see what the casting number is on your heads.
Heli coil will work ok if done right.

Thanks for the response. Someone was telling me that the helicoil would effect the heat on the repaired cylinder of an Optimax. Glad to hear that's not the case. Looks like I will repair the damaged ones.
