Have a 02 merc 200L EFI. It was hard to crank and run. Once running it would sputter while running at 28 mpg or 42 mpg. After the motor was turned off I would have to try about 5 or 6 times to crank it back up again. After I got home (about 1 hour) it would crank up on the first try. What mite be the problem with the sputtering?

Run a compression test. Check for spark on all cylinders when its sputtering. Check fuel pressure.Regards
