Whats this?

Hi. I've just bought a boat with a 2001 mercury 200hp outboard and there is a thin grey hose or wire coming out of the engine with a red plastic plug or tag sticking out of it. I am curious to know what it is for. Does anyone know? I can email a picture of it as I dont know how to add a picture to a message on this forum. Any help appreciated.

It's either a water pressure pickup or speedometer pickup for installing a water pressure guage or speedometer. I beleave the grey one is for water pressure.

Thankyou, saved me a trip to a mechanic. I like to know what things like this are just in case.
