Optimax Idle Temp?

My twin 2001 150 Optis idle at two different temperatures. Port is 159 and Starboard is 120 on the Smartcraft gauges. Which one is normal?

What temp are these things supposed to be at idle?

I went out today and port between 600 and 1000 rpm temp was 159-170


starboard between 600 and 1000 rpm temp was 132-143

which engine is running at the correct temp?

Thermostats open at about 160 degrees so port engine is normal. Check settings on gauges to see if both are reading in Fahrenheit not Celsius.

Definitely Fahrenheit but the Stbd engine has the relief hose from the top of the block to the poppet valve removed and plugged off

My 2001 225 Opti has always run at 120.F after it has warmed up.

Check out sevice bulletin 2002-08, Merc bumped the thermostats to 130* and improved the seals. The kit called out in the SB has all the parts needed to convert the covers & T-stats, easy to install.
