Mercury 50 ELPTO
1st time on this forum, so please be gentle:
Brother and I purchased a new to us Merc 50 ELPTO '06 on a 16'5" boat. 1st chance to really use it for fishing last week and all went good from Sat through Thurs evening. I took the missus out for a 1/2 hr cruise - 80% power; and then brother tried to do the same with his fiance. Got the proverbial cell call that he was limping back to dock at 3.5 mph and could do nothing to get it any faster. The tank vent had been closed "duh", I'll take credit for that,, but had caused me no problem during my earlier cruise. He opened it and while running at 3.5 he pumped the bulb with no change. We are hoping/thinking it may be just clogged fuel filters. If not we have no idea where to proceed from there except to take it to a dealer and have it throughly checked out. Motor worked like a champ all week. The benefit of your collective experience with this type of situation would certainly be appreciated .
