I have a mid 80's mercury 50hp outboard. On the trailer sometimes it idles at a low rpm and rough. Other times it idles perfectly. Once when the motor is waned up it will rev up just fine. I rev it a couple of times and it goes back to idling rough. When I put it in the water (put a bind on the prop) the motor doesn't seem to have enough power. I can get half throttle out of it but anything past half throttle, the motor stalls and to start it back up I need to give it throttle and choke it a little. Now, while I was in the water I gave it full throttle and bumped the choke several times. When I did this, the rpm jumped up briefly and came right back down and eventually stalled. The gas tank was vented, I adjusted the needles in the carbs to factory settings. Some people told me it may be electrical like the stator or the trigger. Other people told me it was the fuel pump. I didn't really get a professional answer nor did I get any consistent answers. Please help. Jon
