Hello,
Here is the situation. 1983 40 hp merc serial # 6361637. Bought a 1988 bass bomber this engine came with. We attempted staring it and gas was pouring out of the carb. Took it in had the carb rebuilt, the place called said they had it running but it wouldn't idle and their diagnosis was the reed valves are bad. I went to pick it up and they couldn't start it. When we got it home we checked for spark and no spark at # 2 cyl. Trigger checked bad as well as the switch box so we replaced trigger, switch box, rectifier, stator. Much stronger spark at cyl # 1 now but still no spark at Cyl 2. We took cyl 2 lead going to secondary coil and attached that on the cyl # 1 lead at switch box and got spark at cyl 2 so both secondary coils are fine. HAve pictures and ohm volt test information if needed please help. Thanks
