I had a meltdown on my Voltage regulator? why.I just purchased from the PowerSports Plus the recommended regulator and installed a replacement voltage regulator for a 1999 Mercury serial # OG 920066 40 hp ELPO. The replacement regultor wiring color sequence coming out of the regulator is different than the old one. Installation went ok by matching colors. Engine stated up without a problem. Let the motor sit for a week went to start! Dead battery. Battery was fully charged before VR installation. After some testing found the short was eliminated if I disconnected one of the yellow leads. Do I have the wrong regulator?
