2001 Mercury 4 stroke carb questions

It seems that the 'toon I am working on for my uncle has been neglected. He picked it up last season and stored it for the winter. When he brought it out of storage it would not start. I looked at it and found it wasnt getting gas. Took off the carbs and pump, what a mess. They were all green and jelled up. I took some time and a few cans of carb cleaner and started to get them cleaned up. I noticed that the "post" that the accelerator sprays through is broken off on the middle carb. Since this is not a replaceable part has anybody ran carbs without this "post" or have any ideas. Replacing a complete carb would be disapointing to say the least.

No never tried it with tube broken, may make it run it too rich. Try it and see.
