outboard trim problem

Have a merc 75 hp w/ power trim but no meter to show where the motor is sitting. Should I get a trim pin and put it where the motor is a close to 90 degree as possible? I seem to be loosing power when it is trimed all the way.

Trim down all the way until boat plains off then trim up to get bow of boat up enough to ride good and perform good.
