1994 mercury 40hp ELPTO ignition problem

I need help diagnosing whether my kill switch went out or if it is another related issue. I am getting 12v from my ignition switch (purple wire) but nothing to the purple on the distribution block on the motor, the boat was purring like a kitten and just shut off like the kill switch was activated and now is getting no fire. Can i run a 12v jump wire to the ignition lead on the distribution block without causing any further problems to confirm that it is a bad kill switch?

Disconnect key switch main harness from engine and use a remote start switch connect to starter solenoid, spin engine over and check for spark.
If has spark then have problem with key switch, stop switch or wiring harness.

I checked for a problem with the key switch and wiring harness and found no issues. what would signify a bad trigger? It started for about a minute last night and shut down again like it has a short somewhere?
