1978 175 v6

This 1978 (actually a mariner) V6 has an electrical box on top of the choke plate assembly that is called an idle controller. does anyone know what this does and also; it is off the motor and i dont know where the 2 leads are supposed to be connected. Can anyone help?

The Idle controller/ Idle stabilizer alters the ignition timing, look in the harness heading back to the control boxes, the connectors are usually within reach of the component unless the harness was remove. if that's the case recheck the harness routing sometimes the logical routing isn't what merc did.
