Trolling motor issues

Hi, my name is Zach Porter. I have a 2001 motorguide brute 67 trolling motor. It is 24 v. All the wires on the bottom side of the foot pedal are melting together. I have re-wired a couple of times. What further action should I take in finding what is causing this and what should I do about it? Get a new pedal?
