  • New to me, 2000 Optimax 225 - Maintenance Suggestions

    Hello everyone,

This is my very first post here and I am sorry to say I have questions...

First, I have (new to me) twin 2000 Optimax 225's with 680 hours. The power heads were replaced 1 year ago with 5 hours on each since the new power heads. The fuel rails have also been replaced, but beyond that, I am unsure of everything else. I had an engine survey done...The DDT showed no faults and compression test was satisfactory.

I want to be sure that all maintenance is up to snuff before taking my family out for the first time. I am a do it yourselfer but I have not owned Merc's before.

What maintenance should I be performing besides thermostats, water pump kit, plugs, fuel filters, etc. Should I perform any maintenance on the air compressor, fuel pumps, etc.

    Potential challenges.

Starboard engine (model 1225D83WD) - Have to give throttle to start when cold. Once throttle applied and taken back to idle, she stays running and runs smooth.

Port engine (Model 1225D84WD) - Fires right up, but after a few minutes there is a slight increse and decrease in rpm. Not enough to notice on the gauge, but it can be heard when only this engine is running.

Thanks in advance for your help!
