gas assist on mer 30 hp

I have a 30 hp merc with gas assist tilt , can I convert it to power tilt and trim . I have been quoted $1500 to $2000 for a tilt and trim unit. There must be a cheaper alternative.

There are some aftermarket companys with trim units but make sure you will be able to get replacement parts before you buy one.
