If you are talking about the armature in electric starter then it just pushes out of field, the magnets in field are very strong so will to push hard.

Once get everthing loose from rotor you tap it out, very much recondmended to have a service manual to service distributor as taking apart, putting back togather and installing it correctly is tricky.

isn't the rotor shaft pressed in ?? not sure what u mean by tapping it out?? doesn't the rotor have to be pulled off with a puller??

No the shaft can be separated from the rotor.
