  • 2005 Mercury 40 HP EFI Questions

My engine number is 1B005736, 40 HP EFI. I need to replace the water pump impeller. Everything looks straightforward except I do not know where to disconnect the linkage for the transmission..where do I do that? Can anyone help?

Second question, Is there any way at all to get more HP from this engine? I see all sorts of information on line that says restricitor plates can be removed. Is this accurate? Has anyone ever done it?

    Thanks

The shift lever disconnect should be located under the carburetors. More horse power is a controversial and expensive trial and error. There are no certainties.

The engine is electronic fuel injection so no carbs.

I pulled the starter and that does not provide additional access. I cannot locate any kind of lock pin by looking and am reluctant to take it apart unless I know for sure how it goes back together.

Is there a shift disconnect somewhere else?

Should be located under the throttle body, follow the upper shift linkages, will take you to the shift shaft disconnect.
