1986 25EL outboard idle rod

Can some provide some information or a picture as to how the idle rod is to connect. I've purchased manual and viewed countless items on the web and still do not under stand what this attaches to. I recently was having some issues and found it laying in the bottom of my motor.

It connects to choke lever and to timer base linkage to advance timing to fast idle engine.
