My Mercury 60 3 cylinder has a burned spot on the voltage regulator and I assume it was working okay but ordered a new one to be safe. The tac never worked. Got part number 883072T as a replacement when ordering 815279T and the new one has a ground wire. I installed it and connected the battery and noticed a spark. The regulator has continuity to ground from the red leads = about 150k ohms thru the ground wire. Is this normal? Or should I order another regulator? All I did was install it and connect the battery and I am figuring it is a faulty regulator. engine sn OG268277 ...AGM

The new regulator does read battery voltage to determine charge rate.Regards

Welp, I disconnected the negative on the battery, installed the replacement regulator and there were no sparks when reconnecting the negative side. Have since started breaking in a new power head with the aide of a functioning tachometer and voltage regulator. …AGM
