25 hp merc tranny trouble.

I have A 1994 25 hp that works fine in forward and neutral but when you shift into reverse the prop tries to turn but it slips kind of like A ratchet. The splines are fine on the output shaft so I assume it is in the lowere case. I have had other/older brands of lowers apart, have they changed much? Is there any exploded views on the net? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.
