  • Engine kills under load

    Hello.
Boat motor is a 1997 Merc 60HP Bigfoot on a 20' pontoon. Top enf of the motor was rebuilt end of last summer and then rebuilt lower unit this summer. Issue is now when we accelerate from an idle, the motor kills/dies out unless you “feather” the throttle (slowly increase). It revs up fine when in neutral with no load. I thought it might be the fuel line/primer bulb from the gas tank to the engine but we replaced that and still having trouble. I also know I have the wrong prop pitch but not sure if that would be the issue or not? Engine seems to run o.k. once it gets going and I am hoping it is just a simple adjustment of sorts but really have no idea (big surprise). Any comments or suggestions pointing me in a direction would be most appreciated.

You may have debri in the carburetor. Start with check spark, next remove and carburetor thoroughly clean (verify every air/fuel passage is clear from debri).
