  • 1991 200 XRi Trouble Today

    Good afternoon all,

Took my boat out today and it ran fine for 20-25 minutes and the repeating warning sounder came on just like it did a few months ago when the old resevoir on the motor got low.

Stopped and pulled the cover off and checked the resevoir and the level is good. Started it back up and the alarm came on again and noticed the motor wasn't making any power. Any ideas where to start?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Forgot to mention that the motor is still smoking like normal when running.

It is possible that the motor is going into a limp mode. Check to make sure your not overheating, you could have a faulty sensor.

I'll check that. The temp was good and the motor was peeing a steady stream. Didn't know my motor had a limp mode. Hope that's the reason it lost power and not anything serious.

        Thanks

Check compression and spark. If both are good, start checking sensors. There is a water sensor on the water/fuel separator on the engine. There is an oil sensor on the bottom of the oil reservoir. Start with those.
