  • 1972 Mercury Outboard 1150

I have a 72 Mercury Outboard 115hp that runs great when started, however, I need to spray quick start in the carbs to start.
Checked Plugs, Cleaned contacts on Distributor, carbs seem to be working

    What would be your diagnosis?

Sounds like your choke may not be working properly. Verify your solenoid is inguaging.

Thanks for the reply, however, the silinoid is working and closes the chokes on the carbs.
      I'm stumped.

Do you pump the primer bulb before starting? This will force fuel into the carburetor for the initial start. You may want to remove the carburetor and thoroughly clean, verify every air/fuel passage is clear from debri.

          solution

I used some SeaFoam additive to the fuel and replaced the pump and she starts great now.
