  • 2000 Mercury 125 2-Stroke

    I recently purchased a 2000 Proline 17' Sport with a 2000 125HP 2-Stroke Mercury outboard motor.
My question is with this set up what wshould my max speed be and @ what rpms should I be running? Currently top speed is 35mph by the speedometer. Cant recall the RPM at top speed tho.
Just wondering if I am getting the max out of the motor with the set up or maybe i could do a little more tweeking (cleaning and replacement of some parts) to get the most out of my motor.
Thanks in advace for any help!

Your motor maximum RPM should be around 5200rpms. If you are running close to this number at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) and the max speed is 35mph, then that is going be the fastest that boat will go with that motor. You may experiment with different style propellers to try to get a little more, but this is expensive and rarely rewarding.
