  • warning horn tones vary at key switch turn on

    I have a 200hp mariner (1987) SN 0B105552 which has a warning horn tied
into the ignition switch that started coming on intermittently during operation of the boat.
the tone is a steady "on" which indicates high temp. however the tone is not always there, goes off and sometimes is there when you just turn the ign. switch
on. check the temp sensor (open circuit like it should be) checked the horn function as per the shop manual by grounding the 12v from the key switch. horn comes on as it should.?? the installation instructions for the warning horn
say that when you turn on the key switch(cold engine) and get no beeps and you know that the horn works, its the oil injection warning module. ??
the boat seems to be running fine but the intermittent high temp solid beep
on occaison and the unpredictability of what tones or abscence of tone at key
turn on is frustrating. bottom line, I can turn on the key-get no sound, come back ten minutes later-turn on the key-get a double beep, come back some time later and get a single beep ??? any ideas??

Could be warning module, wiring bad or oil level, temp sensors. Test sensors as per service manual, if all good replace module.
