Mercury year?

I have a 70hp mercury outboard and I'm not sure of the year. The only numbers I can find are 3401-8717-01 and 3400-8715 any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Where did you obtain those numbers? There should be a freeze plug on the motor with the serial number?
