thermostat installation

i purchased a new thermostat for 88 force 125,this thermostat has no by-pass slot. 0n a previous forum the installation instruction was to make sure the by-pass slot is up, my new thermostat part#f528068 has no by-pass slot. the forum stated that if the slot was not up overheat will result,please help.

You need to put the spring end into the head or block.
