Took my boat out on the lake for the first time this year. Ran great for about 3 minutes, then died, wouldn't start. Went to pump primer bulb and found it flat as a pancake! After some massaging, got it pumped up and restarted. Had to repeat once more before reaching dock. Installed replacement mercury hose and bulb kit (motor is 1995 40HP merc). It wouldn't suck up any gas. Took the connector off the motor end of the hose and squeezed the bulb and when it reinflated I could feel it sucking air from the motor end. Figured it was bad. As a precaution, I dissassembled everything back to the pick up tube in the tank to assure no obstructions. The anti siphon valve seemed to work freely enough. Installed another bulb kit. Wouldn't prime. Removed gas tank cover, no help. Finally got it to prime by removing the engine connector again and pumping the bulb while holding the open end of the hose low. Reinstalled connector. Motor runs, but bulb never gets hard. The original problem of the flat bulb indicates to me some kind of obstruction between the bulb and the tank, but found nothing. I'm fresh out of ideas and my foot's getting sore from kicking things. Any ideas at all???

Primer bulb help - air in line
A note to my own post: I installed clear tubing from anti siphon valve on top of tank to the next fitting. Found I'm getting an infusion of bubbles along with the gas, creating a large air bubble close to the anti siphon valve, which is causing an interruption in the flow of gas. Still haven't found air leak. Threads on anti siphon and tank pickup tube sealed with permaflex threadlok blue and are tight. Gas tank full. Only other possibility is where the pickup tube attaches to the fitting that threads into the tank.
