  • 2006 60hp Mercury Four Stroke not charging the battery

I have a 2006 60 hp 4 stroke. serial number is 1B353307. It is a new to me motor. I purchased it over the winter. It runs well, but is not charging the battery. I had a year old optima dual purpoase battery on it, ran it down after a day of trolling, then purchased another agm dual purpose battery and it also ran it down. Thought my fish finder combo was possible more than the charging system could handle so I seperated the two, only had the engine on one battery by itself, and it still ran the battery down and had to switch batterys to get the motor to start. I have read about voltage regulator problems, and the recall for some years. looks like 2002-2004. I am wondering if this is my problem with my engine. It runs the battery down to 11.8 volts and doesn't have th 12 volts required to start.

It does sound like you need to replace your voltage regulator.

Is there and updated voltage regulator that is better than the original? The one I have found is the singal part, but I have read about others using a kit, was the kit just for recalled items? How long does it take to change this out?

Yours does not show to require the recal. Does not take very long, the part number is 893640T01.
