I am a newbie on here but have been around boats all my life. i have run into a problem though. My trim motor has shorted out and while trying to remove the the bolt closest to the transom is not to where I can get to it. So I decided that I would have to remove the complete unit. then ran into another problem, removed the pin on the tilt cyliinder, and removed the bolts holding the unit to the transom bracket. I can slide it around but cannot get it out due to the fill neck on the left side and the relief valve on the right. So I guess my question is does the outboard need t o be removed from the boat to get the unit out? Forget to give info on the motor. It is a early 90's model 150 hp Mercury. My trim assembly is a 3 wire 3 ram. I think it has the cartridge style motor but will know for sure if I ever get it out. Any info is greatly appreciated.

You will need to remove the starboard side engine mounting bracket. It may be easier to remove the engine to do so.Regards
