Tilt Trim Compatibility

I have a 1985 50 Hp merc, 4 cylinder, 2 cycle engine, without tilt/trim. I am looking to add tilt/trim, I'm wondering what year and models will be compatible with my engine? more specifically i have found a 1986 merc 50 hp tilt/trim unit, and a 1989 merc 40 hp, 4 cylinder tilt/trim unit, will either of these units work with my motor? thanks

You would have change the bracket and trim unit but the 86 50 would probably work
