The boat is a mid 90s. It idles good and wont die. when you open it up and run for 30 secs or so it dies. It will restart easy but dies when you open it up for 30 secs to a min. I am needing help to fix this problem. Could it be the fuel pump? Thanks

fuel problem
the fuel lines may be the cause..ethanol breaks the hoses down from the inside especially if you don't run all the fuel out every time that you shut it down and store it for any period of time i run mine out every time....it can even be the main line from the tank...the additives help but they are NOT a cure...i hope this gives you a place to start... i always try the 20 dollar cure first...al

I agree, mercury is notorious for there older fuel lines breaking apart from the inside with this new ethenol. If the fuel line is the older grey, then replace the fuel lines with the new epa approved lines. Fuel pump could be a problem, but start with the fuel lines and primer bulbs.Regards

Ok i tried the fuel lines and still have the same problem. I was looking over the motor today and my oil looked weird so i took the tank off. The oil tank has gas in it. Would it be the oil pump or the fuel pump? I am going to run a compression test what should the compression be? Thanks for the Help Mark

Yes you can just premix your fuel, disconnect the oil pump.Regards
